Kate Muller – Animal Communicator, Author and Artist
"In these books my passion is for listening deeply to nature and sharing that magic with others.”
Kate grew up with animals, camping holidays and an endless fascination with how nature works. She studied Fine Art at UCT but “magic” didn’t enter the vocabulary there and so the search began. On completing her degree she went adventuring to the South Pacific islands, but no matter how far she travelled she found the pollution and environmental problems of our times. These experiences taught her she had to play her part in changing our human impact on the globe. It took a while collecting tools for her basket - from running a permaculture food garden to working as a field guide. Kate continued to follow her heart and had the wonderful opportunity to do some deep ecology work. From here she volunteered in animal sanctuaries and ran an environmental education program for Landmark Foundation’s Leopard and Predator Project… but something else was calling… and she had to listen. In animal communication Kate found the magic she was searching for and now enjoys working as a pet therapist and teacher by talking with animals (www.katemuller.co.za).
Creative Nature came out of a desire to continue sharing her love for the environment, art, storytelling and whispering with the hearts of children.

Aaniyah Omardien – Fairy Godmother
Aaniyah is a born and bred Capetonian, longboard surfer and mother of two. She grew up with a deep love for the salty ocean from spending time with her family at Fish Hoek beach; and in high school she enjoyed hiking the Cape mountains with the school hiking club and the Wilderness Leadership School. After graduating with an Honours degree in Atmospheric Science at UCT she spent the next ten years with WWF, starting with climate change and marine conservation. Her passion for the ocean swayed her to focus on the marine environment and Aaniyah pursued her Masters in fisheries management. She led the Marine Programme and her most prized achievement was being part of the team of people that worked towards proclaiming Prince Edward Islands South Africa’s first offshore marine protected area. Aaniyah is a firm believer in working with people to bring them closer to their natural environment – benefits can work both ways. She led a leadership programme focusing on mentoring young leaders in their conservation careers.
Alongside Creative Nature, Aaniyah works on the Cape Flats with schools creating fynbos gardens for sunbirds. These gardens act as stepping stones for pollinators to journey across the flats to Rondevlei Nature Reserve and eventually to the Boland mountains. She has initiated regular low tide rocky shore clean-ups at Muizenberg Corner, where collected debris is weighed and sorted for study, and is spearheading a project to understand and reduce local plastic pollution.
